ATTN: TAX FILERS

Make sure you use these tax credits before they’re gone!

The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” passed by a Republican-led Congress and signed into law by President Trump, eliminates popular federal home energy tax credits years earlier than planned, cutting off support for American households facing increasing energy bills.

This is bad news, but the good news is there’s still time to use these credits before they expire. We made a handy chart below with all the specific dates. Plus, there are still thousands of state, local, and utility-level incentives that can help you make clean electric upgrades.

Other options:

Even after federal tax credits phase out, you may still be able to take advantage of tax credits by leasing clean energy systems.

That’s because there are still tax credits for companies that lease solar panels, battery storage and geothermal heat pumps to homeowners. Under a leasing agreement, the company that installs and owns the equipment claims the credit and typically passes the value to you in the form of lower monthly lease payments. This arrangement is available through 2027 for solar panels and well into the 2030s for battery storage and geothermal heat pumps.
